1. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara star in this Swedish film remake. It’s also a best-selling novel. Don’t let the name fool you. This movie is murder solving movie. It’s about a journalist (Craig) who gets recruited to help a rich man solve a murder of one of his family member. He agrees, but when things get complicated he enlists in the help of a research analysis named Lisbeth Salander (Mara). The two then team up and try and track down a killer. 2. Young Adult: Charlize Theron stars a writer who moves back to her home town after her divorce to get back her old high school flame back. The catch? He’s already married with a baby on the way. It’s a story about how we all get older, but some of us don’t grow up. 3. The Descendants: George Clooney stars as a Matt King, a man whose life just got complicated. His wife in a coma and is told that she is not going to recover and that he must pull the plug on her. His oldest daughter, Alexandria, complicates things even more when she tells him that their mother was cheating on him. King tries to track down the guy his wife cheated on him with, with the help of Alexandria, while also trying to figure out how to tell his youngest daughter, Scottie, that their mother is going to die. 4. Sherlock Holmes 2: Game of Shadows Robert Downey Jr. is back as Sherlock Holmes. This time, Sherlock is after his arch nemesis Moriarty, who is evenly matched and equally as smart as Holmes. 5. Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt again. This time the IMF is shut down and he and his rogue team must go undercover to try and clear their organization’s name. It's taken several years, but one of my wishes has finally come true. I have been saying and wishing for years for Leonardo DiCaprio to play a villian in a movie and it was announced a couple weeks ago that he would. Leo is going to be playing an evil slave owner is Quentin Tarantino's new film Django Unchained. I can't tell you how pleased this makes me. I love DiCaprio to death, but I am so sick and tired of him playing the good guy in every movie that he makes. This could be his Oscar chance in my opinion. The Academy has never given it to him and now that he has almost been typecasted, I wasn't sure that he ever would. Yes, he plays different characters, but they are always damaged good guy. Now is his chance to finally break out of his comfort zone and play an extremely evil character and if he is even half as good at playing the bad guy as he is at playing the good guy, then he'll be fantastic.

Billy's Back

It was announced a couple months ago that the host of this years Oscars was going to be Eddie Murphy. The reason? Brett Ratner was set to produce. Ratner recently cast Eddie Murphy in his new movie TOWER HEIST. However, after a slight altercation with an inappropriate remark at the press conference for TOWER HEIST, Ratner stepped down as producer and Eddie Murphy resigned as well sticking with his director. My personal opinion is that they should have gotten Ricky Gervais to host. He would have boosted rating for the show for sure, which is what the academy is trying to do anyway. The new host has been announced finally and as sad as I am that Ricky wont be hosting, I am extremely excited to be able to say that the host of this year's Oscars is going to be Billy Crystal. Crystal is by far one of the greatest hosts the show has had. Ever since he has stopped hosting, this show has been declining. He is my favorite host of the Oscars and I'm really excited he is back. His intros to the show have always been the most entertaining to watch. I have very high expectations for the show. But if it's anything like it's been in the past, it's sure to be a great success.

Okay, lets talk about what happened last night. I don't watch nominations unless they are for the Oscars. I'm more of a wait and see whose nominated once the show is actually on. However, yesterday afternoon I made an exception. I wanted to make sure that writing down the winners was as easy as possible for me since I was going to spend the whole night writing out my montage scene for the screenplay we're about to shoot. So, I went on the Golden Globe website and wrote down the nominees. Things were going great...till I got to the best motion picture comedy/musical. I threw a bit of a fit. The nominees were: Alice in Wonderland, Burlesque, The Kids Are All Right, RED, and The Tourist. Now, I'm not going to go off and insult all these movies, but really? The Hollywood Foreign Press couldn't find 4 other films to be nominated that they had to pick some of the worst films of the year. The Kids Are All Right was the only acceptable film on there. Burlesque was one of the worst reviewed films of the year. The Tourist stunk, no offense to Paul Bettany. Alice in Wonderland was nothing special. Thank goodness The Kids Are All Right won or else I would have had to question their credibility. That was about the only catagory I strongly disliked, however, I loved the winner. So, I guess I'm happy. The rest of the night went pretty well. Annette Benning also won for her performance as a gay mother and wife in the film too. She really deserved it. I knew that the best actor in a drama was going to be a tough one. Realistically, the race for the Oscars is between Colin Firth, who won last night for The King's Speech, and James Franco for his performance in 127 Hours. Personally, and I have seen both films, I think the award should go to James Franco. Yes, Colin Firth is spectacular as his portayal of the stammering King George the VI, but James Franco had to carry 127 Hours all on his own. It's him stuck in a single place for nearly 90 minutes and he entertains throughout. This was the moving performace of the year. I RARELY cry during movies and this film brought me to tear. I wish I could say the same for Colin's performace, but I can't. James Franco had the most memorable perforance of this past year and I believe that he deserves the Oscar. Natalie Portman won for Black Swan. No surprise there. She deserves it. This role is so unique and challenging to play. I think she may have an Oscar in the bag this year. The Social Network won best picture and David Fincher won best director for it. Director should probably go to Darren Arranofsky, but I'm not going to rant on this one. Best picture is a big conflict for me. Usually, I feel very strongly about one film that I really want to win. This year, though, I'm rather disappointed in the choices. Sure, they are all good movies, but none really stood out to me. The Social Network was beautifully made and so well written. Black Swan was shocking and suspenseful. The King's Speech is inspiring. I can't really say I have a favorite this year. The Social Network looks like the front runner. I'll be content with whatever film wins best picture. Christian Bale and Melissa Leo won the best supporting actor awards for their performances in The Fighter. No complaints here. Terrific performances all around in that film. The last thing I need to mention is the host, Ricky Gervais. I was thrilled with his performance although most of the people last night were not. They claimed that Gervais was being mean, but I feel he was just telling the truth. He pointed out the performances in The Tourist stank. I agree. He called Bruce Willis Ashton Kutcher's father and dissed Tim Allen on his lack of great film work (a little mean but should I bring up The Shaggy Dog for proof) This was the most hilarious award show I have ever seen and it would be a waste if the Foreign Press got rid of Gervais just because he went for the jugular. I love you Ricky!

What the Hell, Jon?

Jon Favreau announced yesterday that he will NOT be directing Iron Man 3. At first, I thought, Marvel I don't like you. However, after gathering more information, it was not Marvel that dumped Favreau, but the other way around. Jon tweeted, "I've had a great run with Marvel and wish them the best." Instead, he has chosen to direct a Disney's new family movie Magic Kingdom. Jon says that Iron Man 3 is going to pick up after Thor, Captain America, Hulk, and The Avengers. All of which are set to be realeased within the next 2 years. (excited, by the way) He claims that he's not sure where everyone is going with these movies and that superhero movies are in the pipeline. He doesn't believe that anyone has a plan after these movies and that they will not go anywhere. He has no idea what to do with Iron Man 3 and doesn't think that anybody else does either. Some others believe that it was Jon's price tag that caused Jon's leave. What ever it was, Disney is paying him enough money. Although this is a sad thing to hear, this will not be the last of Jon Favreau or Iron Man 3. Cowboys and Aliens, (Favreau directs and stars Harrison Ford and Daneil Craig), is set to come out in the summer and Iron Man 3 is set to be released on May 13, 2013.

1. Jai Nitz: Writer of the comic book Tron: Legacy and screenplay writer. Met him at the movies where he was doing autographs. We've been emailing and he's been giving me a lot of great advice. 2. Help Me Breathe: My friends Sterling and Adam's band. They had their first gig last night and they rocked it. They have a music video on youtube. 3. Unstoppable: Great movie. Sure it's predictable and for entertainment purposes only, but Chris Pine is amazing. Also, I wanted to talk about him some more. 4. Avatar: The extended version of Avatar will be released on Tuesday. It was released to theaters with extra footage and now it'a about to be available on DVD. 5. Springsteen: Bruce Springsteen will be on Jimmy Fallon this Tuesday night. He will perform 2 songs from Darkness on the Edge of Town. 6. Comic Con: Finally convinced my dad to go to Comic Con. Hopefully, can get tickets when they go on sale on 22nd. 7. How Do You Know?: Paul Rudd's new movie just punched me in the face. It's release date was pushed back from next week to December 17th. Oh well, it is the holidays, maybe a sighting/meeting is waiting for me since he will be back to visit family. 8. The League: Hilarious new favorite show on Fx. It's about 5 friends who are all part of a fantasy football team. Comedians Nick Kroll and Paul Scheer, and independent filmmaking genious Mark Duplass are just some of this great cast. 9. Breaking and Entering: The documentary I saw during the film festival, although it did not win here, it won a best documentary award at a show they did in Colorado. 10. Blue Valentine: The MPAA just slapped this movie with the dreaded NC-17 rating because of graphic sex scene. If it doesn't get taken off and back down to an R rating, it could hurt the film's chances for awards.

Actor of the Week

Alright, this is the actor I've been waiting to name actor of the week since I started this blog. He's the man I've been in love with for seven years now. CHRIS PINE. That's right the new Captain Kirk. I discovered this guy and if anyone wants to challenge me on that go right ahead. I say that with full confidence because I doubt any of you have seen The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. That's right. That was his first major motion picture. Now, I can't validate the movie because it is a really cheesy disney princess movie rated G. However, it's part of Chris's history and I fully support all his work. His next large film was with one of Hollywood's greatest young actresses...Lindsey Lohan (just kidding about the greatest crap, but you already knew that). He played the love interst in Just My Luck. It was a pretty major role for him, but the real fame wouldn't hit until 2009. Pine gor cast as the one and only Captain Kirk in the reboot of Star Trek. Let's just say that this movie was huge for me. I've collected several autographs from the movie and my most prized one being Chris's. I lost so many auctions for that card. However, I did manage to finally get my hands on one at a local comic book convention. For an undisclosed amount, I got my Chris Pine autograph card. Yes! Anyway, Chris's other less known work is even better than some his mainstream work. Some titles include Carriers, Small Town Saturday Night, and Bottle Shock. But why is he actor of the week? Well, glad you asked. This Friday, his new movie Unstoppable comes out. It stars Pine and Denzel Washington as two train operaters who must stop a rogue train that is carrying tons of dangerous chemicals ready to blow. It's an action packed thriller and Pine's first big film since his Star Trek success. I can't tell you how excited I am for this movie. Go see it and check out Star Trek if you haven't seen it. It won't disappoint

Jackass 3D

I am so proud of America. Jackass 3D was not only the number 1 movie in America last week, but it made more than 50 million dollars. This past weekend, it made more than 20 million dollars. So, if you're counting, that's 70 million dollars in two weeks. I have seen it twice and plan on seeing it again, well hoping. I love it. I've loved these guys for nearly as long as they've been doing the show. It's been ten years and they're still going strong. This is the best Jackass movie by fat. They have some of the best stunts this time. Some of my favorites were the band instruments and the ram. That one starred Ryan Dunn (my favorite Jackass) and Steve-o. I won't tell you what they are about cause I don't want to spoil everything. I also loved the invisible man, the high five, and my favorite skit was the one with airplane. Funniest part of the movie and nearly everyone participated. Now, I will say this. This movie is not for everyone. In fact, I don't recommend it unless you like watching people do stupid things and you don't mind some disgusting stunts. You know what Jackass is like. I don't need to explain it to you. This was probably the funniest movie of the year and I don't think any movie can compete. Johnny Knoxville and the gang are back! I can not wait till Jackass 4, I think 50 million pretty much secured it. KIFF

So, KIFF is over. Due to school and work, I was only able to six movies this year. Some highlights were Breaking and Entering. This was the best documentary I have ever seen. It starts off with a hilarious eye grabber. That is, a man trying to hula hoop with a 16 foot hoop. It was about people trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. It was funny, you loved the people in it and were rooting for them to get in throughout the whole thing. Benjamin Fingerhut was the director. He chose some of the most interesting and unbelievable one to pick. He has grape catching, Joggling, and tons more. It was so fun to watch. I was able to meet Benjamin and he is the greatest guy. I got his card and everything. Favorite moment of the festival. Some sneak previews I saw were Black Swan, 127 Hours, and Nowhere Boy. Loved all of them. Black Swan, edge of your seat thriller. It plays with your mind and it is wild. If I had fingernails, they would have been gone after watching that. It's about a girl who finally gets the lead in a ballet, but with the appearance of new ballet dancer/competition, strange events starts to occur. There is a lot of suspicion and suspence. 127 Hours. This one was about the guy who was arm was trapped under a rock and he was stuck the middle of nowhere for 5 days. Another thriller and since it’s true is even harder to watch, but it is a must see. James Franco should have an Oscar for that one. I already mentioned Nowhere Boy, but I just wanted to talk about it again. All in all, I had a blast and next year, I’m going to see as many as possible. I’m clearing my schedule.

Actor of the Week

KIFF is still going on. I'll recap everything at the end of the week. However, sneak preview. Last night, I saw Nowhere Boy. It's the story of John Lennon. It take place in John's teen years up until he leaves for German and the rest is Beatles history. It's just a fascinating story and the movie is superb. One of the reasons it's so good is the young actor who plays John Lennon. His name is Aaron Johnson. And, if you don't know who he is now, you'll learn and you should love him, cause I do. Well, I'm also in love with him, but you don't have to be. Just like him. Aaron Johnson, who I found out looks a lot older than he is. I thought he was in his mid twenties, turns out I'm almost a year older than him. Good new for me. ha ha. Like I said earlier, he plays John Lennon in Nowhere Boy, but he also had a huge break this year with the smash hit Kick-Ass. He had the lead role opposite Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin). Please don't hate me, but I haven't seen Kick-Ass yet, but I promise you that by the end of this week I will have seen it. I got it for my birhday and I haven't had time to watch it yet, but now that I am in an Aaron Johnson phase, I will watch it. Enough rambling. He's also been in some smaller films like The Greatest, Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging (yes, that's a movie) The Illusionist, Shanghai Kinghts, Temple Grandin, and Dummy. Lood for him in Kick-Ass 2: Balls to Wall, The Phone and Chatroom. Also, see Nowhere Boy. If you love The Beatles you'll really appreciate it.

KIFF

Alright everyone, today is the start of the Kansas International Film Festival (KIFF). I am super excited. I wanted to go last year, but I found out about it too late. This year I was prepared. Mainly becuase I'm part of the fine arts group and I get emails daily on their events. So, I bought my pass and I'm ready to do. The pass is good if you plan on seeing more than one movie and you guys know me. I plan on seeing two on Sunday alone. They are Jack Goes Boating which stars and is directed by one of the greatest actors in the world Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Also that night, the new movie Nowhere Boy about John Lennon starts. Definitely going to see them. The big one tonight to kick off their premeire is The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. It's the the third and final chapter in a the trilogy. I've only seen the first one, but not the second one. So, I'm only hesistant because I don't think I'll know what's going on. We'll see. But that's what going on in the movie world here. It starts tonight and goes until Thursday. Those movies I just names are the big studio produced ones. Most of the movies tonight are independent/small budget films. A lot of the actors and directors from the smaller films are going to be there and we can talk to them. That's going to so much fun. Keep you updated on how the festival goes. I think it's going to be awesome.

Director of the Week

I know, it's been months since I've done one of these. But, hopefully, I'm back and ready to blog. My sister mentioned that my last blog wasn't very visually appealing. Well, that's because I did it on my phone. This one's on the computer and it will be loaded with pictures so there. Most people when they think of Ben Affleck think about Gigli. And I agree, that's what I think of when I think of Ben Affleck the actor, but what comes to mind when I say Ben Affleck the director. That is an entirely different picture. Literally. Ben Affleck was a very popular actor in the '90s and early 2000s. He made hits as Armageddon, Bounce, Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Reindeer Games, Forces of Nature, and not to mention his break out movie Good Will Hunting. However, around 2003 the infamous Gigli came out and it was probably one of the worst movies I and the world had ever seen. It was the atomic bomb for Ben. His next few roles were, well, they were a paycheck, but the box office died for him. They were Jersey Girl and Surviving Christmas. After those Ben sort of disappeared for a while. Then, 2006 hit. Ben was back acting, this time in a very serious role playing George Reeves in Hollywoodland. This was a performace worth marking. It wasn't fantastic, but it was better than what we had seen of him. Next, and here's where it gets good, Ben made his comback...only he wasn't on screen. Ben took on the role of directing and let me tell you, he is one of my favorite directors of all time. This is what Ben was meant to do. The movie was Gone Baby Gone. It starred his brother Casey Affleck, Michelle Monghan, Morgan Freeman, Amy Ryan and Ed Harris. This movie was beyond fantastic. It sent chills down my spine, not because it was good, but because it was so real and really hit home. Everyone deserved to win an award in that movie, especially Ben. This past week Ben's second movie, The Town, started and I saw it and once again I was blown away. It stars Ben Affleck, and he does a pretty good job, Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker), Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall and Blake Lively (I didn't like her until I saw this movie). Ben doesn't disappoint. I feel like when I'm going to see a Ben Affleck directed movie, I'm going to see one of the best films of the year. This movie has Oscar written all over it. I urge you all to go see it. It's plot and writing are superb and the acting is amazing. It's a thriller and I was tense with anxiety and anticipation throughout the whole thing. I was so into it that I didn't want it to end. I even found myself cheering for the criminals and wanting Jon Hamm's FBI character to get screwed over in the end. Go see it, it's the best movie in theaters right now.

So if any of you are on twitter you can follow me on it. As of Friday I am now obsessed with twitter. My twitter name is goztothemovies. I know you're all surprised. News for this week, I saw Easy A today and I have to admit thatits probably one of the best teen movies I've seen in a while. The writing was so creative and whitty. Emma Stone is superb and I love Penn Badgley. The whole cast is fantastic and the plot is just so relatable. Not the slut part but the rumors part. And it may look like a teen movie but almost everyone in the theater was in their thirties and forties. So check it out. It might surprise you. Also I'm seeing The Town next week and Ben Affleck better not disappoint cause I have high expectations cause Gone Baby Gone was fantastic and some of Ben's best work.

Coca Cola Refreshing Filmmaking

I now have a new favorite filmmaker. He's brilliant, but not super famous yet. His name is Andy Landen. I "discovered" him this past weekend. I went to the movies with my dad and we saw Resident Evil: Afterlife. Not so good a movie, but it was the short film we watched before it that was amazing. Every Coca Cola does a contest for filmmakers to make a short film about Coke. Well, Andy and Alice Mathias were the winners. I've been watching these for years, mainly because they always play them at the movies and let's face it, I'm always there. This one, however, is hands down my favorite of all of them. I saw it and it immediately got my attention. It was cute, but clever, original and well made. I don't want to tell you what it was about because hopefully I'll be able to find a link to it and you guys can watch, but if not, here's an idea go to an AMC theater see a movie and you'll get to see it there. I sent Andy a message on Sunday and told him that I really liked his film and that he did a fantastic job. Well, today, I got a message back. I've never had anyone from Hollywood write me before. It was amazing. It made my day, my week, my month, and my birthday. He said thanks that I wasn't weird for messaging him. I want to thank him here, even though he doesn't read this, because if I send him another message, I'm sure he'll think I'm weird and stalking him. So, as of right now, I'm not going to say anything back cause I got what I wanted. But who knows, I might thank him later on. We'll see. Sorry it has been so long since my last post. School started and I've been super busy getting back into the swing of things. Now, I think I'm well adjusted and ready to start again. Also, I've got something to say finally. Which is, I hate RED BOX. Most people find the Red Box the greatest thing. One dollar and I get to watch the movie that I want. Great. WRONG. I'm going to tell you my experience with Red Box. First off, I an totally against renting movies. I buy all my movies. However, my mom and dad wanted to see this movie about a tiger being trapping two people in their flooded home. Well, my dad didn't want to spend 20 dollars to buy it and Vintage Stock didn't have it, so we Red Boxed it. I was the one who had to go get it. It was either that or walk the dogs. So, I went to the grocery store to buy it. Here's my experience. I got there with two people in line in front of me. The first guy did not take long. It was the people in front of me who were the culprits. First, they had no idea what they wanted to see. How the hell do you not know what you want to see? They stood there in front of me looking at each movie and reading its synopsis. Okay here's my stand. It's just when I worked at the theater and people would come to the movies and not know which movie they wanted to see. That's okay I guess, but then they would stand in my line and ask me to tell them about every movie. That's not my job. This situation was no difference. The mother and son just stood and read each synopsis like they had all the time in world. Well, I didn't. It's common curtesy that if you're going to take a while to let the next person go. Especially, if there is only person behind you and they know exactly what they want. It took them almost ten minutes to pick their movie. I took less than one. Here are some examples are of people wasting time at the Red Box. The lady is taking her sweet time to search for a movie and the man is just blocking it while he figures out how to use it. Look The next problem was that they didn't have the movie that I wanted. Here's where I like Blockbuster and if I was ever going to rent a movie it would have to be from them. For one thing, they're a store and if someone wants to read about the movie, they have an entire store to do it. Not a single screen. There is only one Red Box in each place, so you have not choice but wait. And let's be honest, no one likes to wait. My next problem with Red Box is that they only carry about one or two copies of each movie. Which means, if they are out of the one that you want, you have to drive around and find another Red Box and look in that one. Which means that you have wait for more idiots to decide what they want while wasting your time just find out that this Red Box didn't have the movie either. Try doing that four times. Not a fun night. That's why Blockbuster is better. They have tons of new copies of the new releases, not just one or two. There's an extrememly higher chance of finding the movie that you want there instead of Red Box, escpecially on a Friday night. Red Box, to me, is a stupid invention. It's designed to bring out the worst in people. What do people hate? Having wait, check. Having waited only to find out that you waited for nothing, check. Wasting money driving from place to place looking for a single copy of movie, check. I don't see what people see in it and it angers me that this stupid vending machine style of the movie rental is running the established and, in my eyes, great rental chains out of business. Pretty soon there wont be Blockbusters and you'll have to drive to eight or nine different places wasting five dollars on gas just to buy the one dollar movie. Think about it. Also, don't even get me started on Netfilx. Movies in the mail box. I have to wait for my mailman to deliver a movie to me that I don't even get to keep...that's just wrong.

Summer Movie Recap

Since school started this week, that means summer movie season officially ended. Tomorrow I will see my last summer movie. I don't count the first 3 days, you don't do anything. Here's a recap of the summer movies. 1. Iron Man 2 2. Inception 3. A-Team 4. The Other Guys 5. Scott Pilgrim VS. The World 6. Pirahnna 3D 7. The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time 8. Knight and Day 9. Splice 10. The Expendables This misses were Predators, Killers, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and (I love you Paul Rudd) but Dinner for Schmucks. To be perfectly honest, if it hadn't been for Iron Man 2 and Inception, this summer's movies would have sucked. The good news? The holiday season looks like it will make up for the summer. Did not see Salt, Despicable Me, The Last Airbender, Grown Ups, Toy Story 3, Robin Hood, Shrek Forever After.

I think Leonardo DiCaprio's rep basically said it all. In case some of you haven't been following entertainment news, Mel Gibson is in some more trouble. Domestic violence to be exact and his wife isn't exactly miss innocent herself. Now, I am not saying what he did was okay by any means. Violence is nothing I approve of. Mel wife taped some of his rants and is now using them against him. However, there is some question as to why she taped them and who sent them out for the public to hear. It's just one big scandalous mess. Now, Mel isn't the first actor to have some anger problems in Hollywood. We can all think back to the days of Russell Crowe, Alec Baldwin and not too long ago Christian Bale. The only difference? Alec, Russell and Christian are still bankable stars. Christian's the biggest by far playing Batman and John Connor. I'll see Christian Bale in almost anything. Russell's sort of up in the air and Alec is getting Emmys and Golden Globes just thrown at him. Mel Gibson's last movie was okay at best. I personally and selling my copy of Edge of Darkness. I only bought it cause I knew my family would like it. Well, it's leaving the collection. And, after much searching, I realized that that is the only Mel Gibson movie that I own. I was hoping that I would never have to own another one of his, but I had forgotten about one. I've known for a while that my Hollywood crush ANTON YELCHIN was filming a movie called The Beaver with Mel and Jodie Foster. It will be the one exception to my rule. My new rule is no Mel Gibson. However, my love for Anton will thwart my distaste for Mel. That will be my last Mel Gibson movie. I don't care how things pan out between him and his wife. I just don't like his attitude. Now, back to my previous statement at the beginning. Leonardo DiCaprio is probably the greatest actor that has ever lived, at least in my eyes. He is perfection to me. He was about to start work this fall on a movie with Mel's production company and Mel was going to direct it. It was going to be about vikings. The plot was of great interest to Leo. He withdrew from it earlier in the week. His rep said that Leo has earned the right to work with who he wants and Mr. Gibson is not one of them. Take that Mel. I really respect Leo for making this decision. I'm not sure most actors would do that. The rep even said that it was from Mel's recent domestic violence problems. Leo thinks that it would hurt his career and I don't blame him. I think it would. I'm not sure if I ever want to see another Mel Gibson film again. Not even his old stuff. I still haven't got around to seeing Braveheart and now, I'm not sure if I ever will. I understand that things happen and that it's also none of the public's business as to what's going on in celebrities lives, but if you're a bad person then you're a bad person and if you have a problem try and fix it. Mel's been in trouble before. They even make fun of it in Paparazzi with Cole Hauser. Mel makes a cameo poking fun at his anger problems. Hello, that was a sign. He needs to get it under control. And if he does, maybe I can reconsider him as an actor, but until then, no more Mel Gibson for me.

PAUL RUDD This one is a no brainer. It's of course Paul Rudd. The man I have been chasing all over Kansas to meet. I can not tell you how much I love this guy. I am super excited because his new movie, Dinner for Schmucks with Steve Carell starts this Friday. I will be there. My love for Paul started several years ago when he was in The 40 Year-Old Virgin. This movie also starred him and Steve Carell. Some other films you might have seen him in are I Love You, Man, Role Models, The Object of my Affection, Wet Hot American Summer, Knocked Up, Clueless, and Anchorman. He played Brain Fantana and that has to be my favorite role of his. Paul Rudd is a local star in my area and I hope to see him get more starring roles and have a reallly successful career in Hollywood.

No, I wasn't there. And if that wasn't bad enough news, I've spent all weekend watching coverage of it and checking out who was there. It was packed with celebrities. Here's the list of the people I know were there. Trust me, this wasn't everyone. Scott Pilgrim VS. The World Cast: Michael Cera, Jason Schwartzman, Mary Elizabeth Windstead, Anna Kendrick, Kieran Culkin, Mark Webber, Chris Evans, Edgar Wright (director). Oh and as an added bonus to the fans, everyone that was at the panel was walked down the street by Edgar to a screening of the movie. All 1500 of them. I am so incredibly jealous. Sucker Punch cast: Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Caral Gugino, Jamie Chung, Zach Snyder (director) The Marvel Gang: Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving for Captain America: The First Avenger. Chris Hemsworth and Kenneth Branagh for Thor. Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo all attended the Marvel panel. Hmm. I don't want to say anything for sure, but I'm assuming since Mark Ruffalo was at the Marvel panel that he has officailly signed on to play The Hulk in The Avengers movies. The movie is set for early summer of 2012, so hopefully they will be at the 2011 comic con. Next year, I should have full coverage on what happened there. Brad Pitt VS. Zombies?

Yes, just found out that Brad Pitt is going to fighting zombies in one of his new movies. He will star in Paramount's bigscreen adaptation of Max Brooks' post-apocalyptic tome World War Z. I think it will be great. I thought he did a good job killing Nazis in Inglorious Bastards and I'm sure he'll do great killing zombies. You know what's funny. There are some movies about zombie Nazis. Mabye that will be his next movie. He'll already have experience at killing both. Not sure yet how my dad will feel. Zombie movies are what he lives for...oh well, I know he'll see it no matter who stars in it. He hasn't missed a zombie movie since I've known him. Look for the movie to arrive around 2012.

Superhero Update

I've read some good news this week. Well, its good and bad news. Bad news first, Edward Norton will not be reprising his role as The Hulk in The Avengers movie. Sad, I thought he was pretty good. Good news, Mark Ruffalo is in talks to play him instead. I'm torn cause I love both the actors equally. I'm sad to see Ed leave, but thrilled to see Mark Ruffalo finally make it into the superhero genre. I think he'll do well. He can play Bruce Banner easily. To me, I can't picture him as an angry person, but luckily, that part will most certainly by CGI. The reason I can't picture him is because some of his past filmography has been 13 Going on 30, Just Like Heaven, Zodiac, and Shutter Island. Rom Coms and dramas, but certainly no action movies. This should be his first. I do feel confident that he will do well as Bruce Banner and this movie will most definitely get his name out there and give him another genre to add to his resume. The next news is a rumor. As you read in the previous post that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in Inception directed by Christopher Nolan. Well, if you look to your right, you can see that he also directed the Batman movies. Well, Joseph is rumored to be playing the new Batman villain, The Riddler. The Riddler character itself is also a rumor, but that was is more set in stone than who is to play him. I am praying that he gets the part. I would pay good money to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt in superhero movies, especially as a villain. Like I said in my last post, he is the indie movie king (500 Days of Summer, Uncertainty, Mysterious Skin) and I looking forward to seeing him in some big action blockbuster movies. He's proved he could do it in the new G.I. Joe and now Inception. Both him and Mark Ruffalo are going to kick butt in their new roles, if they get the roles, which I'm sure they will.

INCEPTION

Let me describe this movie to you in one word: PERFECTION. That's about the only word that fits this movie. Okay, I went in with pretty high expectations and it went above and beyond them. Christopher Nolan is a film genius. For those of you that don't know what it's about, here's the short version. It's a world where the technology exists for people to go into other's dreams and steal ideas and plant ideas into people's minds through dreams. I wish I would have thought of this. It's one the coolest ideas for a movie I have ever heard or seen, and I've seen a lot of movies. This movie not only had superb acting, but it also had some of the most visually stunning special effects that I have ever seen. The effects are something that you expect from a big Hollywood blockbuster, however, they were not over the top as some movies are. Nolan could have made this movie all about the special effects, but he doesn't. Instead, he focuses on the characters and the plot of the movie and lets the effects build from them. Nothing is over the top, even though everthing is a dream. It's all spectacular without being obnoxious. And the acting, please, someone give Leonardo Dicaprio an Oscar. This is some of his best acting. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has finally broken out of his indie movie phase in acting and is coming into the big screen as an action star. He's already proven that he can act. He did that part first, now, he's branching out and showing his fun side of acting. He is marvelous in this movie. This movie makes you think, entertains you, and sucks you into it so much that you almost forget that you are watching a movie. It makes you want to be a part of this movie and a part of the world.

Leonardo Dicaprio Leonardo Dicaprio is the actor that I have liked the longest. Probably my first Hollywood crush. Any guess on which movie? Yes, Titanic. However, Leonardo Dicaprio is not only just a good looking guy, he is probably one of the best actors out there in Hollywood. I also think that he one of the most underappreciated actors. He's been snubbed of an Oscar so many times. He should have won for The Aviator. Leonardo has been a huge star for over a decade. Titanic was his big break, but he's done so many other memerable movies: What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Man in the Iron Mask, Romeo and Juliet, The Beach, Catch Me If You Can, Revolutoinary Road, Body of Lies, Blood Diamond. He is also Martin Scorsese's favorite actor to work with. The two have worked together on The Departed, The Aviator, Shutter Island, and my personal favorite Gangs of New York. His new movie, Inception, starts this Friday. It's about using technology to go into people's dreams and use the dreams against them. Dicaprio costars along with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Ken Wantanabe, Cillian Murphy, and Michael Caine. The movie not only has an amazing cast headed by Dicaprio, but the special effects are mind blowing. If you haven't seen the trailer, check it out, or better yet, go see it in theaters this Friday. Leonardo Dicaprio doesn't have any other films coming out until 2012, but look for Hoover to come out then. Dicaprio will be playing J. Edgar Hoover. It's directed by Clint Eastwood...hmm. I wonder how Martin feels about that? GO SEE INCEPTION.

My Room

This past weekend, my dad and I redecorated my room. We moved my desk out and added another DVD display because I ran out of room. Here's what my new room looks like. They are in order from when you walk in and they go from the left of my room around it in a circle. This is the coolest my room has ever looked. Thanks dad. This one should be the only one that is hard to see because my hallway has horrible lighting. But, it's supposed to be a poster of The Big Lebowski and theh back cards that I got at Blockbuster, if you remember those.

Jackson Rathbone This actor technically should have been last week's, but I found out on Friday that he had a big week this past week. Now, it seems that tweens just can't seem to get enough out of the Twilight Movies. I've seen them. They're not the best movies ever made, but they are certainly not the worst ones. This past Wednesday (6/30), the third installment of the twilight movies came out. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Jackson plays Jasper Cullen. His most memerable scene was when he tried to kill Bella in the second movie. Him, and the rest of the Cullens have much larger parts in this movie than the last and we find out a lot more about the Cullens' pasts. Jackson had a pretty big role in the movie. It was on Friday that I realized that he was also in The Last Airbender which also opened this week. Although Twlight is much more anticipated than The Last Airbender, the movie still is one the favorites for the summer. Not mine unfortunately. It's too early to get the box office numbers for the weekend, but I'm sure Twilight dominated. The Last Airbender probably did okay, but I could be wrong. Either way, Jackson got his name and face out there this weekend and we all know that there is more of him to come since there is still one more Twilight movie to be seen, (Well one book; two movies). Look for him in the next installment of the Twlight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

Quick note, remember earlier when I posted about my not so successful trip to Harrah's casino. Well, I was on google looking for information and found out some more interesting news about it. Guess who else I missed. WILL FERRELL. Yah, he was a surprise guest there. Will Forte was also there (MacGruber), but come on. Will Ferrell was here and I missed him too. PAUL RUDD, JASON SUDEIKIS, and now WILL FERRELL. This totally sucks. I was so close to meeting them. If only I was 21. Bummer moment, this sort of ruined my week. I know it was a few weekends ago, but I'm still not quite over it.

Actor of the Week

Logan Lerman Some of you might remember Logan from my next big names of Hollywood post, but some of you might not. He's a young actor, he's only 18 years old, but has already caught my eye as one of the next really big stars. He's been around most of this past decade(2000). He started out his career as playing young Nick Marshall in What Women Want , Drew Barrymore's son in Riding in Cars with Boys, and Ashton Kutcher's younger self in The Butterfly Effect. It wasn't until about 2007 when his career began to pick up. He started to get roles in The Number 23 with Jim Carrey and 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. Then, he did one of my favorite movies. It's wasn't a big release movie, but it rules. It was Meet Bill. (not the Eddie Murphy movies) This one starred Aaron Eckhart. He played a kid who wanted Aaron (Bill) to mentor him and tried to help Bill save his marriage. It's hilarious. He did a couple other movies called My One and Only with Renee Zellweger and Gamer with Gerard Butler. But, this past President's Day was the release of his first blockbuster movie. He played Percy Jackson in Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Theif. He finally got the recognition he deserved for all his hard work. The movie comes out on DVD today. His next big movie is going to be The Three Musketeers with Orlando Bloom, Mila Jovovich, Christoph Waltz, and Matthew MacFadyen. Logan will play D'Artagnan. Look for it in 2011. Also, look out for Logan to get some lead roles in some huge roles in some big Hollywood movies. He's young and very talented. He will be a big star someday. That, I can promise you.

Paranormal Activity

Finally saw it. The movie that everyone was talking about. I'm not into horror films that much at all. I'll watch Zombie movies and science fiction, but I'm into slasher films and well, I just don't like movies that scare you. I don't like to be scared. However, my sister has been complaining for weeks about how we only watch movies that I want to see, so we let her pick on and she picked Paranormal Activity. It was a good movie. I was, not scared, but had some tension going on. The ending was pretty creepy. It got me thinking about how a simple and cheap movie became a high grossing popular film. I want to make something like that. My cousin was visiting this week. He lives out in L.A. and is trying to be an actor and works for a production company. He gave me some advice on how to start out. He said start making things here locally and put some things on YouTube. Get some experience. Great advice. The only thing I need is some actors, crew, and of course, a camera. I'm looking into the camera first because that's probably the most important thing right now. I've decided that one I get it, I'm going to make some YouTube videos and just play around with it. Learn how to use the camera. I would love to make a movie, not the same plot, but the say way. Inexpensive, yet still a great movie that people are going to want to see. Hopefully, I'll have a camera by my birthday. Hopefully. In the mean time, I'm going to continue to write and edit and try to get my second screenplay going. Also, see Paranormal Activity. Blockbuster/Actor of the Week

Another bitter-sweet day on Saturday. My dad, grandma, and I all decided to do a vintage stock run Saturday afternoon. However, we never made it to vintage stock. At least not the first trip. We left our house at 2. We first went to Wal-Mart. We spend about an hour there. I don't know how or why, but we did. Then, we headed off to vintage stock. On the way to vintage stock, there is a blockbuster. We we're debating which one to go to first, we settle on blockbuster. As we were pulling into the parking lot, we say store closing everything must go signs. I nearly jumped out of the car. I talked about in a previous post about one closing and we found the cards that they put behind the movies that were for sale. Now, we found them again only this time, they were free. I probably got about 300 of them. My dad got about a third of that. He only likes the monster movie ones. We spent an hour and half there. We actually had to leave in order to make it to dinner on time. We felt very rushed. So, we went back later that night and spent another half an hour there. We did go to vintage that time. The guy said they were hiring. I'm thinking about applying. I think it would be a fun job, except the one that's hiring is a little farther of a drive than I would like, but it might be worth it. So, Sunday, Father's Day comes and we go over to aunt and uncles house. We ate so much food that by the time it was time to go and dinner time, we weren't hungry. We went back to blockbuster and spent another hour and half there. We looked at the card again and found a ton that we missed before. This time we weren't rushed. I got about a hundred more. They seem like they are not that big of a deal, but they make for amazing collector's items and I can hang them on my wall as posters. Or with the amount I got, wallpaper my room. It was a fun weekened. My dad and I could not have had more fun with the blockbuster closing. The only thing that sucks is that now we have one less blockbuster to go to and look for movies. It's fun until they actually close their doors, then is becomes sad. I did get some good movies. The DVD is on the left and the card is on the right. ACTOR OF THE WEEK- TOM CRUISE Yes, this week it is Tom Cruise. I think that it's safe to say that some of us have had our love/hate relationship with Tom Cruise ever since his Oprah stunt. However, two years ago when Tropic Thunder came out, I forgave him. He was in love and we all just need to stop bringing it up. He is back on top. Les Gorssman was his character in that movie. He was an overweight mean as hell movie producer. The character was such a different role for Tom Cruise. He played it so well. I don't know if I have said it before but Tropic Thunder is my all time favorite comedy. I am obsessed with it. So, naturally, I was thrilled on June 6th when his character Less Grossman reappeared at the MTV movie awards insulting celebrities and doing a dance with Jennifer Lopez. Here's look at some of Tom's other movies: Jerry Maguire, Mission Impossible, Collateral, War of the Worlds, A Few Good Men, Risky Business, Eyes Wide Shut, Top Gun, Rain Man. There's more, but those are just a few of his hits. This Friday, he is back with a new action comedy called Knight and Day. It costars Cameron Diaz, though this isn't the first time the two of them have worked together. They were both in Vanilla Sky. Tom Cruise plays a spy who is set up and Cameron Diaz gets caught in the middle of it. It looks like a fantstic film. It looks like it might be like Killers, only I think this one's going to be a lot better. Tom Cruise, to me, is a great actor. Sure, he went crazy for a while, but who in Hollywood hasn't. He's back and his movie are going to kick ass. Look for Mission Impossible IV set to come out next year.

Guys, I'm so sorry. There was no actor of the week this week. I know, it's my fault. It's also too late in the week to one, so we're all just going to have to wait till next week. I've been super busy with my grandma being in town and some family stuff going on. I promise there will be on next week. Good news though, I wrote a screenplay. I can't talk about just because I haven't copyrighted it yet or have it protected yet. I can tell you that it is basically an Independent film and I love it. I should, cause I wrote it. I finished it a few days ago. I still do some minor editing, but I'm trying to look at it everyday. I read it's best to take a week or two off of it and then go back to it with refreshed and ready to perfect it. So, that's what I'm trying to do. In the mean time, I have started on my second script, this one is sort of an Independent film also, but it's going to have way more laughs. My first one is sort about everyone hating life and my other one is about people just trying to have fun. That's about all I can share. Hopefully, some day you guys might see them made into movies. Finger crossed. It's a hard to do, but I willing to work for it cause it's what I want.

Every once in a while, I stumble across a movie that really surprises me. Not just, I thought this was going to be a bad movie, but it was good or vice versa. No, I mean a movie that completely throws you off guard. Well, Thursday, my dad, sister, and I watched a movie called Flakes. Flakes was one of the movies that had been in the Blockbuster pile for months and every time we'd go, I would pass on it. I had it in my hands a few times, but never got it. Until last weekend. We went with my grandma and it was in the five for twenty dollars pile. We needed a few more, so I finally got it. Then, Thursday night, we needed a movie that my sister would like. She hates nearly every genre except Harry Potter and Gerard Butler. However, she likes some comedies, so we agreed on this movie. It was only after Alice in Wonderland was unavailable on On Demand. Weird. Flakes is a comedy about a cereal bar. It's just like a regular bar only they sell bowls of cereal. It's probably one of the greatest ideas ever. So, the main character, Neil, (Aaron Stanford) is the manager of the cereal bar. His girlfriend, Miss Pussy Katz, (Zooey Deschanel) wants him to stop working there and finish the album he has been writing for years. Things get even more uneasy between the couple when another cereal bar opens up across the street and becomes Flakes's competition. Also, Pussy Katz volunteers to work at Flakes while Neil finishes his album, but things get ugly when he agrees to hire her and then fires her the very next second. She gets pissed and walks right across the street and applies for a job with the competition. The movie is hysterically funny and so out of the ordinary. It's one of the reason's that I love independent films. It's got a great idea that no one has ever thought of, the writing is great, the cast is hysterically funny, and it's all around a great film. It's now one of my top favorite movies. It sucks to think that I waited and waited and never bought the movie. I love it. Watch it. It will change your views about Independent films.

Sharlto Copley Why? Because I didn't start doing this till April and I missed District 9. This man was not only in one the best and most suprising/successful movies of last year, but he also had one of the best performances. Sharlto Copley played Wikus. He went from being this nerdy does everything right kind of guy to a badass action star trying to help the aliens. My dad and I agree. District 9 was one of the top 5 movies of last year. It was my dad's number 1 movie of last year. This year, he becomes an action star again. He plays one of the four members of the A-team. The A-Team comes out this Friday. I am trying to go to the midnight showing, but so far I have not been successful. This movie may seem similar to The Losers, but it's not. Entirely different cast. Not to mention the plot and actions scene will differ exponentially. It's going to be a summer blockbuster. It's going to kick ass. I can't wait. Sharlto Copley plays Murdock in this movie. I would say that he is the comic relief, but I know Bradly Copper and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson have some one liners too. The movie also stars Liam Neeson, Jessica Biel, and Patrick Wilson. Expect great things from Sharlto. He has already done two major blockbusters and his performances were unforgettable. I hope he does more movies in the future because the Goza's love him.

PAUL RUDD PART II

He was back this weekend. The only difference being that I knew it. I found out on Friday that Paul Rudd, Rob Riggle, and Jason Sudeikis were all in town for the Children's Mercy poker tournament. They were going to be at Harrah's casino on Saturday. Needless to say that I was super excited. Saturday comes, I go to my grandma's and the first downer. All three of them were at the Royals game Friday night. Not just them, but Bobby Cannavale and Horatio Sans too. Bummer. So, I leave my grandma's knowing that they are at the casino and I was not able to go. I'm not old enough and I have no idea how to get there. Well, let me tell why I have the most amazing dad on the planet. He drove me down there. The two of us, doing something that my mom thought was a waste of time. We had a blast. First, my dad thought Harrah's was a different casino, so we drove to the wrong one first. Then, we went searching for Harrah's and new we were close. However, I almost freaked when my dad said oh there's the sign, we must be close. The said Ameristar casino. I said dad were going to Harrah's. Luckily the sign was just placed in an inconvenient place because on the other side of the street was the enterance to Harrah's. So, we get there and there is literally no place to loiter. It is so small that we if stood in the lobby long enough, they probably would have asked us to leave, or forced. See, they were in the casino area and I am not 21, not yet. September, can't wait. So, we get there at 330 and they were going to change locations at 4. We had to make a choice and either stay in the sports bar with the very slim chance of just glancing them or leave. Now, we were debating in the parking lot because we had already left the building. I remembered a little to late. We decided not to go back in because we have the GOZA luck, which is bad luck. With our luck, they probably would have just sat us in the corner and we wouldn't have seen anything. So, we never got to see Paul Rudd. However, I wouldn't call it a wasted trip. At least I get to say that I was in the same building as him for a few minutes. That is pretty awsome. The trip was really fun too. My dad and I kept getting lost, but we laughed about it. He's the best for doing that for me. So, for now, I have not met Paul Rudd, but at least I can't say I didn't try. Maybe next time.

I've recently discovered a new TV show that I love. It's GLEE and I can not get enough of it. I usually don't like musicals. I used to, but I grew out of them. However, this show is one of the best shows on television. It's hysterical, thanks to Jane Lynch. The cast really can sing and they sing well. The music not orginal. They take songs made by other people and have the cast perform them. It's better than a musical because all the songs are songs that people already like. They have performed "Don't Stop Believing" "You Can't Always Get What You Want" "Jesse's Girl" "Another One Bites the Dust" "Hello, Goodbye" "Hello I Love You" and a whole lot more. The plot is the best. It's about a spanish teacher who tries to make the glee club popular again. It includes all the outcasts or losers from the school along with the football players and cheerleaders. I'd name all the cast, but that would take me forever. There are so many people who star on this show. Also, Jane Lynch's character, Sue Sylvester, is trying to destroy the glee club because they cut her cheerleading budget in order the fund the glee club and she wants that money back. The show airs its season finale this Tuesday June 8. I can't wait, but at the same time I'm sad it's over. However, FOX already has them in contracts for the next two years. So, if you missed this season, there's plenty more to come.

Actor of the Week

Adrien Brody I was really shocked when the summer movie list came out. I saw on there, not one, but two science fiction movies and they both starred Adrien Brody. I think most of us remember him from the Oscars a few yers ago when he kissed Halle Berry after winning Best Actor for his role in The Pianist. However, that wasn't when I noticed him, well not his talent. I'm not embarrassed to say that I was too young to see that movie when it came out. I have seen it now and it's quite good. The first time I noticed him was in King Kong. The first time I noticed him was when he was an action star. Still, I'm not used to him being an action star by any means. Most of the movies he does are indie films: The Darjeeling Limited, Dummy, Hollywoodland, The Brothers Bloom, The Singing Detective, The Jacket and Cadillac Records. I still don't really consider him an action star. However, his movies this summer may change my mind. He is a brilliant actor. He's won an Academy Award, he can do drama, comedy, and action. Although, I still think of him as being a laid back indie star, I know he'll impress us with being the action star this summer. Splice comes out this Friday and Predators is coming out at the end of the summer. My dad and I can't wait. Adrien Brody for me and monsters for my dad.

Let me give you an insight into my life. I go through these periods of becoming, well, obsessed, I'll admit it, with an actor. It usually happens after I see a movie with them in it. I imdb them and go out and buy all the movies that they were in. That's one of the reason's I have such a large collection. I can't stop, I've tried. Right now I'm really into Robert Downey Jr. Paul Rudd happen to my first ever favorite actor. I can't remember the first time I started liking him, but it was right before The 40 Year-Old Virgin came out. I remember because when I went to the theaters to see it I was going partially for him. Well, later I found out that he is actually from Kansas City. In fact, my dad and him both went to the same high school. Too bad they were ten years apart. Ever since then I've been secretly hoping to run into him when he comes back to visit. It's the best shot I have at meeting a celebrity here in Kansas. The only time so far that I heard he was here was a few years ago. I used to work at the movie theater and apparently he went there to see a movie while I worked there. One problem. I was not working the night he was there and no one bothered to call/text me and let me know he was there. They all knew how much I liked him and how big of a fan I was. Some friends. Anyway, I know he's come back more since then. For holidays and stuff. But I never saw him or heard he was here so it didn't really bother me. Yesterday, my mom comes home and tells me the worst news to start my week. A guy she worked with was at this chinese restaurant. The name of the restaurant will be excluded because my mom didn't tell me the name. It's apparently his favorite restaurant here. They guy got to meet him and from what I heard talk to him too. Once again. No one called to let me know. This is so unfair. I missed him again. He's probably gone by now and I missed another opportunity. It sucks being so far away from the place I want to be and it sucks that I missed my chance to meet one of my all time favorite actors...again. Oh well, it's not over. I will meet him one day and when I do, it will be the best day of life. can't wait for this to come out this summer

Jake Gyllenhaal This week's actor of the week is Jake Gyllenhaal. His new movie Price of Persia: The Sands of Time is coming to theaters this Friday. I've known about it for about a year now and have been highly anticipating it. Jake was the it guy back when I was in middle school and to this day I still thinks he's an incredible actor. The first time I became a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal was back in 2005 when The Day After Tomorrow came to theaters. My friend Kristen and I were obsessed with him for the longest time. My closet door is living proof of that. However, that wasn't the first time that I had seen him. Back in the 90s he did a movie called October Sky. It was about the rocket boys. That was the first time I saw him. Some other movies that he is in are Donnie Darko, which is now a cult classic, Zodiac, Proof, Rendition, Jarhead, and The Good Girl. His latest film was Brothers where he starred opposite Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman. His most memerable performace was of course his role in Brokeback Mountain. He played opposite Heath Ledger. In the movie he starred as a cowboy who has a romance for years with another man he meets while working. I know Heath Ledger was nominated for his performance, but Jake, to me, that was some of the best acting I had ever seen from him. Now, he takes on a new role as an action star in Prince of Persia. I think it looks like fun movie. For pure entertainment only, but I hope it's worth seeing because I'm going Friday.

Ben Foster This week's actor of the week is a lesser known actor named Ben Foster. Today, his movie The Messenger comes out on DVD. It wasn't released in theaters everywhere, but it did get Oscar buzz and a lot of great reviews. It's about two soldiers who jobs are to tell families that their loved one has been lost at war. It sounds depressing, but I think the performances in this movie are going to be extremely powers. I have not seen it yet, but I'm buying today and I have very high expectations for it. Other movies that this young star has been in are Pandorum, Alpha Dog, Birds of America, 30 Days of Night, 3:10 to Yuma, X-Men 3 The Last Stand, Hostage, and The Punisher. He does a great job in Pandorum. Although the movie itself isn't the best. It was different role for him, an action star, and he does it really well. My favorite role of his is where he plays Matthew Perry's younger brother who is having some mental problems in Birds of America. He plays this mentally not there person who gets in trouble for a misunderstanding and Perry's character takes care him and the rest of the family. It's his best dramatic work. It's really great film. Chances are you have probably seen him in these movies you just didn't know who he was. He is another star in Hollywood that's out there, but just hasn't had his big break yet. The Messenger got him loads of recognition, but it's only the beginning. Look for in some of his upcoming movies like Here and The Mechanic.

Iron Man 2 made 128 million dollars this weekend. YES! I know I have said this before, but I'm going to say it again. Superhero/comic book movies are my favorite type of movies, ever. Marvel has taken over Hollywood. When Iron Man came out a few years ago, it was only the beginning. Now, with Iron Man 2, Hollywood has set up for the next couple years. They are building the suspense for one of my most anticipated movies. They are building up to The Avengers movies. Iron Man 2 is setting everything up. We got introduced to S.H.I.E.L.D. and their leader Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). We also met one of their agents Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). I know most of you know who Samuel L. Jackson is, but a lot of you probably don't know who Clark Gregg is. He plays on The New Adventures of Old Christine and he also directed the movie Choke. He is a hidden talent in Hollywood and we're going to be seeing him a lot more. Marvel is making an individual movie for a lot of the members of The Avengers and Jackson and Gregg are set to be in all of them. Thor and The First Avenger Captain America are set to come out in the summer of 2011 and Nick Fury and The Avengers are coming out the summer of 2012. Robert Downey Jr. is going to be playing Iron Man in The Avengers. Now, a few faces you might not know are going to be playing Thor and Captain America. Captain America is going to be played by Chris Evans who was my pick for actor of the week a few weeks ago. This isn't the first time Chris is playing a superhero. He played The Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies. Thor is going to be played by Chris Hemsworth who is going to be one of the next huge star in Hollywood. His career is going to blow up after this movie. You might recognize him as George Kirk, Captain Kirk's father, in the new Star Trek film. Although he was only in the film for a short while, it's clear that he made an impact and now has a starring role. It is also rumored that Scarlett Johansson will be reprising Black Widow and Edward Norton will be reprising Bruce Banner in The Avengers. The next few years are going to be full of great Marvel Comic books brought to the big screen. Marvel has brought out some the greatest comic book characters of all time. Comic books are vastly becoming the big thing to turn into movies. Spiderman, The Hulk, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, The Punisher, all have been made into great movies and there are so many more to come. If you don't like them, you better start because they are hot right now and it doesn't look like they are going to slow down any time soon. Go Marvel.

BLU-RAY

We finally got a blu-ray player. I know, as much as I love movies, you would think that I would have one already. Wrong. Blu-rays are more expensive than regular DVDs so my dad and I decided that we would save a few dollars and just buy regular DVDs. First story, a few months ago, we found the movie Seven Pounds on blu-ray just lying in the street. It was from Blockbuster. It had a case and the disc was not scratched. It looked like someone had put it on top of their car, forgot about it, and took off with it. It's in great condition, so naturally I kept it. This week, our norton antivirus ran out. Well, it just so happened that ending yesterday, Best Buy was giving away a free copy of Iron Man on blu-ray with the purchase of norton antivirus 2010. Coincidence, I don't think so. It was obvious that we were meant to get one this weekend. My dad and I went and bought it, got Iron Man, and also picked up Star Trek and Shaun of the Dead on blu-ray too. They were on sale. We had already planned on watching Iron Man that night because today we were all going to go see Iron Man 2 for Mother's Day. By the way, it's amazing. I'm going to see it again sometime this week. Superhero and Comic movies are my favorite genre of movies to watch. I can not wait to see it again. Robert Downey Jr. is the man in this movies. Scarlett Johansson kicks butt, especially Jon Favreau's. Don Cheadle does his best at replacing Terrence Howard. Mickey Rourke is a superb villian and the movie is bursting with action and humor. It's the best movie to kick off summer movie season. It's in the top 5 for best summer movie and it's the first one of the summer I've seen. Once again, go see it. Do not wait for DVD.

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. Did I even need to do this one. Of course it's Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man 2 opens this Friday. I have only been waiting for this since the first one came out. One of my favorite types of movies is Superhero movies. I can't wait. I love Iron Man and Robert Downey Jr. We all know Iron Man was his big come back movie. A couple films he made before his come back were Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and Charlie Bartlett. They are both great films and he does a great job in both of them. Of course after Iron Man, he starred as the dude playing the dude disguised as another dude in Tropic Thunder and he played Sherlock in Sherlock Holmes. He doesn't just act, he becomes the characters that he plays. It's a skill that few actors have. A lot of the times in movies it's just actors acting, but he becomes the characters. It's not Robert Downey Jr. playing Sherlock Holmes, it is Sherlock Holmes. He is in my top 10 list any day. He is back on top and one the greatest actors out there right now. Once again, Iron Man 2 in theaters this Friday May 7. GO SEE IT

Pointless Story

For those of you that don't know my dad, let me paint a picture. Unlucky. Nearly everything he likes ends up closing down and going out of business. So, no surprise on Sunday. I said earlier that I saw The Losers twice in one weekend, well here's why. On Sunday, my dad was finally going to see Clash of the Titans. It has taken him almost a month to see it and now he was getting his chance. I tagged along, of course, cause I simply can not pass up a free movie. Plus, I love Sam Worthington. So, the movie is literally a minute away from starting. As soon as they turn on the 3D projector. It's light burns out. The theater workers say it will be back on in 5 minutes. 5 minutes later, another 5 minutes. As soon as that announcement was made, they said over the radio that they couldn't fix it and the showing was being cancelled. Needless to say, my dad had to wait another day to see it. We ended up seeing The Losers, he loved it too. It's not just me. Don't worry, we went and finally got to see Clash of the Titans on Tuesday. It just funny that my dad got screwed over...again.

Chris Evans Alright, it's taken me forever to pick someone. This week, no one really stood out to me or had a huge week. So, I just picked someone whose movies I've been watching a lot this week. This week's actor is Chris Evans. I saw The Losers on Friday and Sunday, yet twice. I'll explain later. Since then, I've been watching a lot of Chris Evans movies. I watched Push which is a great movie. I also watched Cellular and The Nanny Diaries. He's other works include The Fantastic Four movies, London, Street Kings, and Sunshine. I've always liked his movies and I think The Losers is the start of a great career because his next big movie is in The First Avenger: Captain America. He will be playing Captain America and I can not wait till that comes out. I love super hero movies. They're the best. Good Luck Chris, I can't wait to see your future works.

1,000 DVDs

I have finally hit a huge milestone that I have been trying to hit for some time now. I now own 1,000 DVDs. I know. It's been really hard to get here because everytime I get close I look at my DVDs and find more that I dont want and I sell them, but not this time. I planned this out. I plan was to make Avatar my 1,000 movie. Just because it was a huge movie that I loved. It's a good choice. However, I was going to Vintage Stock to sell some for some extra money when I looked at my collection and saw a lot more that I didn't want. By the time I had pulled all of them out, I was down by 20 DVDs. Fortunatly, Vintage Stock was about to have their Easter sale. When we finished with that, I was only down by four. I knew I was going to get Pirate Radio and Avatar. That meant I only needed two. It wasn't hard to find two more movies that I wanted to have. So, Thursday I went to buy Avatar and I officially have 1,000 movies. Also, just to add in. I saw The Losers yesterday and I highly recommend it. It's just one of those movies where you have fun. Sure, it's weird that a guy who gets shot in the arm is climbing buildings hours later and the other guy that gets shot in both his legs still mangages to kind of walk/stumble around minutes later. Just look past it, I did. This movie isn't an Oscar movie by any means. It's just there so we can have fun at the movies. Go see it. It's a blast.

Actress of the Week

Zoe Saldana What a year Zoe Saldana has had. It all started in May of 2009. She played Uhura in Star Trek. Which was my favorite movie of last year. After that, we saw her again in James Cameron's Avatar. She played Neytiri, the love interest to Sam Worthington. That was just the beginning for her, I guess her big break finally. She's been acting for years and now she's finally in. This past friday (16th) she co-starred in Death at a Funeral as Elaine, the cousin. Now, this week is antoher huge week for her. Avatar is coming out on DVD this Thursday and opening this Friday is her new movie The Losers. In this movie, she plays on bad-ass chick. It's about a group of good guys trying to seek revenge on the people who screwed them over. If that's not enough, look for her in her next movie called Takers coming out this summer. She's had a good year and I hope to see her in many more movies. By the way, can't wait till the Star Trek sequel comes out. She'll be in that too reprising Uhura.

Death at a Funeral

2007 2010 Today, the movie Death at a Funeral came to theaters. For those of you that didn't know, this movie actually a remake of another movie called Death at a Funeral. In fact, it is the exact same movie. The only difference is the cast. The original movie came out in 2007; only three years ago. It was a British film so I doubt a lot of you saw it. It's probably one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I've owned it since it came out on DVD because it was never released in theaters here. So, I was on iTunes when I saw the there was trailer called Death at a Funeral. I thought wow that's the same name as the movie I own. I clicked on it to download. The picture involved the whole cast around a casket. So, I watched and to my suprise, I realized that it was the same movie. Like I said earlier, the first film was made my the British. Its biggest star is Matthew MacFayden. He was also in Pride and Prejudice and Frost/Nixon. He is a great actor. This new one involves an almost entirely African American cast including Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Zoe Saldana, Tracy Morgan, Danny Glover, Regina Hall, and Columbus Short. Luke Wilson and James Marsden are also in it. The movies are almost identical as far as the plot goes. There are very little differences and none of which are real important. They are almost so identical that the same man plays the same character in both movies. Peter Dinklage plays the lover of the deceased father. Both of them are extremely hilarious. I'm not going to tell you which one to see. However, my opinion is that I like the British version better. The only reason is that in the new one, it felt like some moments and words were written just for laughs. In the British one, all the humor was in their reactions and it felt more realistic as the what they were saying. They weren't just talking for laughs. That's the only difference. Maybe I am just impartial because I saw the British one first and loved it. I say see them both and compare them for yourself, but definitely see one or the other.

3D or not 3D

Ever since Avatar’s release, Hollywood has gone crazy for 3D. Avatar was a big deal. It used new technology that James Cameron himself created. The special lens was created to be like seeing through an eye. It used depth perception. The first movie of its kind. Needless to say, it was s success. Now, Hollywood has 3D fever. The film industry announced that it is going to start making a whole lot more movies in 3D. I say, great, until I saw Clash of the Titans. I’m not bashing on Clash of the Titans, I just want to state a couple things. I saw it in 3D and it was a mix of 2D and Avatar 3D. It didn’t seem to be in 3D, but there was little depth perception in it. It wasn’t filmed in 3D and that was its only problem. If it was filmed in 3D, it would have been spectacular. However, that’s not what made me change my mind. It was the previews leading up to Clash of the Titans. Most of the trailers were in 3D and they were animated. Fine, entertaining for children. Then I saw the trailer for the third installment of the step up movies. They are going to release it in 3D. Really, I thought. Why? What on earth would compel the studio to do that? I mean, in my opinion, the step up movies are horrible. I just don’t like them. Why 3D. I saw the trailer. There is so much movement going on and in your face cheap 3D technology. It was hard to follow and almost gave me a head ache, and that was only the trailer. I guess my point is, I’m all for movies being 3D, but if they’re going to take the time to make them 3D, at least use the new technology that wont give everyone a head ache to watch. Yes, even Alice in Wonderland was the bad 3D. Also, isn’t 3D supposed to be a special thing? Doesn’t everyone get excited about a 3D movie because they are so rare? That’s the whole point to 3D, it’s a special thing. I want Hollywood to keep making 3D movies, but I just don't want to see every movie in 3D. I'm still talking in circles. Let me know what your opinion is.

Actor of the Week

Hey, sorry it's been a while since I've blogged. Things have been crazy at home. I'm starting this new feature called Actor/Actress of the Week. What it will do, is highlight someone who deserves a shout out. If an actor has a movie coming to theaters or on DVD or did something totally crazy or awesome, then I will highlight them. We're going to start out this week with one of my all time favorite actors: Phillip Seymour Hoffman. This Tuesday, Pirate Radio comes out on DVD. The movie is about when the British government bans rock and roll and a group of DJs gather to sail around the seas broadcasting rock and roll music illegally. This is one of the best movies last year and one of the funniest. They whole cast is great and the movie is loaded with British humor. They do make some the best movies. Hoffman plays The Count. He's the sort of lead DJ. It's nice to see him in something other than a drama. He's been breaking out this year. He was also in the Invention of Lying. He had a cameo as a bar tender. Some of his more memorable roles have been his Oscar winning Role as Truman Capote in Capote, Synedoche New York, The Savages, Charlie Wilson's War, Doubt, and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. I own all of them. Look for next film Jack Goes Boating. It costars Amy Ryan and is directed by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. It's going to be amazing because Hoffman does not make bad movies and now he's directing. The film will be visionary.

3/30 DVD Releases

The Twilight Saga: Hater to a True Fan

Okay, here it goes. I was basically clueless about the Twilight books until November 2008. I rarely read books that were not made into movies. So, when my friend Vlada saw the poster and got really excited, I had no idea why. She told me that it was about a girl who falls in love with a vampire. Oh okay. That's all I could think of. I never saw Twilight in theaters. The main reason, because I hate being a part of the tween sensations. If a screaming girl likes it, typically I avoid it at all costs. However, the week that Twilight was released on DVD, my curiosity got the best of me and I bought it. I watched and I thought it was hilarious, with all the melodrama. I sold it because I didn't like it, but the truth was that I didn't understand it. The next movie came out this last November and it was New Moon. The second book. Vlada was back from college and we went to the movies. She said she hadn't seen it yet and I said that was fine, we could see it. The truth then was, I had seen so many advertisements for the this movie that I secretly wanted to see it and was thrilled when she suggested it. When March hit, the excitement for New Moon was all over the stores. It got me thinking again about the Twilight series itself. I remebered a few years ago my aunt, Terri, had bought the book Twilight. I asked if she still had it and if I could borrow it. Of course she said yes. I began reading it immediately and my views changed within the first few pages. I understood the movie now and why they were doing what they were doing. The movie leaves out a ton of the things that the book helps to explain, but now I understand the movies and its made them more enjoyable to watch. I'm hooked. The books are great and easy to read compared to my usual Chuck Palahniuk books. You can't help but connect and want to be Bella and you fall in love with Edward and you care for Jacob and the whole Cullen family. The books practically put the reader under a spell. I have been reading these books since the beginning of the month. They have pulled me away from everything. That should explain why I haven't been blogging. I have been reading. I was the biggest don't see these movies person that there was and I am telling you, do not judge this franchise based on the fans. Yes, the fans do go overboard, but that doesn't mean that it is some mindless garbage. This is a worthy Hollywood franchise. Do not punish it for it's fans. New Moon is coming out on DVD tonight at midnight and I already have my copy reserved. Also, Eclipse comes out on June 30 this summer and I can not wait. I am a Twilight junkie, but not the screaming girl type one. I just enjoy them and I'm admitting it. It feels good to say it and now I have learned that I need to give every movie and book a chance. It's not its fault that they have deranged fans.

First off, let's start with the Oscars. The poll here on the website thought that Avatar should win best picutre. However, The Hurt Locker won. I would have liked to have seen Avatar win, but I saw The Hurt Locker and I understand why it won and I accept it. All the other winners were pretty much what you would expect especially in the acting catagories. It was an easy Oscars to predict. Congradulations to Kathryn Bigelow and The Hurt Locker. Next, DVD releases, my favorite. Today releases are: I am buying Up in the Air. This is a great movie and very much what I believe real life is.

The Ricky Gervais Show

This is my first ever non movie post. It's going to happen, but it wont be often. Last Friday, the 19th, Ricky Gervais's new show started. What it is, is him and his friends Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington talking. They are doing a pod cast and the catch is that they are in cartoon. They have these conversations all the time and now they decided to make money off of it. Let me tell you, this is going to work. Even though it is just them talking, this show is histerical. I can't wait for friday when it comes on again. Last week, they talked about people dying and when they die a baby comes out of them. You know, like an apple has seeds. Then, they talked about monkeys controlling space ships. Karl is the main talker and Ricky and Stephen just make fun of what he says. They basically give him a hard time about his strange ideas. You have to have an odd sense of humor to like this. They talk about the most random and absurd things. Be open minded and you like it. If you love Ricky Gervais, then you will love this show. The idea behind the show is very simple, but it works. They make it this sort of masterpiece and no one really has done what they have done before. They make simple supurb. It is on HBO on Friday nights at 8pm. If you miss it, they do replay it through out the week. I have watched the first episode 3 times now. I can't wait for Friday. Shutter Island

Shutter Island: Leonardo Dicaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kinglsey, and Michelle Williams. Let me start out by saying finally. This was pushed back for 5 months. It was supposed to come out in October but due to budget issues it was pushed back till February 19. Dicaprio and Ruffalo play two U.S. Marshalls sent to Shutter Island to investigate a missing patient. Shutter Island is a mental institution that takes only the most dangerous criminals. During their stay, they start to expect that maybe things aren't what they seem and that they might have been sent there for a different reason. Dicaprio soon tries to uncover what they are really doing at this place which he thinks is experimenting on the patients. I say good job Mr. Scorsese. This movie, however, is not as fast paced as you would think. Although, the trailer shows most of the excitment, the movie itself makes you feel on edge. Your mind is set in this institution. You feel like holding your breath the whole time because of the visions and nightmares that Dicaprio has that we are allowed to witness. You know something isn't right from the moment it starts and your mind is racing the whole time trying to figure it out. This is a great movie. Go see it.

My dad and I went to Blockbuster on Saturday. It was just a tipical killing time run, but it was still fun. My dad had to pick up his copy of Jennifer's Body; I had taken his original copy for my own and so he had to get another one. We ended up trading so I got the used copy and he got the new copy. Anyway, it was in the 3 for 20 pile, so we had to find 2 more. I had found a movie called In the Loop. It's nominated for Best Original Screenplay this year. I carried this one around the store for a while, that is, until my dad came up to check on the status of our movies. He had in his hand a copy I Sell the Dead. It stars Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the Rings). It's a dark comedy based in the 19th century about a corpse snatcher. I was extremely jealous when I saw it. I was having a hard enough time finding a movie and now my dad had one that I had been dying to see. You see, in our family, were not good at sharing. We have to each have our own DVDs; Mainly because one day, when I move out, I'll be taking all of mine with me and we don't want to have to divide up DVDs cause we would all be unhappy. So, I ask him if they happen to have another copy. Guess what? They have one more copy of it. Two copies. It was obviously meant to be. So, I grabbed a copy of it too. Before we get to the check out line, I spot a The Spirit picture. I already have a Terminator Salvation, Avatar, and Star Trek picture in this style. I paid full price ($30) for Avatar, but I got the other 2 for 40% off. This one was only $10. That was 20 off. I had to have it. We got the poster too. When we went to check out, the guy spent forever trying to find the skew number for the picture. Once he found it, he finally looked down at our DVDs and said, "You know you have two of these, right?" Of course we did, so thinking we were a little weird he rang us up and we left. The Goza house now has two copies of I Sell the Dead. It's not our first duplicate and it wont be our last. I just hope it's a good movie. I haven't seen it yet. Fingers Crossed. By the way, that movie brings the total to 985.

Dear John: Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum. This is about a girl (Seyfried) who meets a boy (Tatumm) who is on leave from the military and while on his leave they fall in love in two weeks. He has to go back to military for duty and while he is gone the two write letters to each other to keep in touch. I'm sure it's a little more complicated than that. I'm a girl who really doesn't like romance movies. I don't mind romantic comedies cause at least they are funny. This movie just does not look good to me at all, but it's not my kind of movie. I'm sure lots of girls will like it, but I'm going to pass on it From Paris with Love: John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. A U.S. Ambassador in France takes on more than he bargained for when he partners with a U.S. agent who's been sent to Paris to stop a terrorist attack. The two are total opposites of each other. One is really tough and action packed and the other is an intelligence operative with not much combat experience. It looks like a lot action and gun shooting. I hope the plot ends up making sense cause the trailer explains nothing. This is one of the rare movies I had to look up what it's about because the trailer just shows shooting and very little works. The name is cool atleast.

What is the Matter with Best Buy?

Okay, Best Buy has been my main center for buying movies for over 7 years now. However, My dad and I have started to notice a change in the them. A few years ago, you used to be able to find all different types of movies. They had a huge selection of movies to choose from. Lately, they have started buying tons and tons of big movies and none of the little movies. For example, I wanted to buy The Brothers Bloom. They didn't have it even though it was just released. I drove all over looking for it. I finally found it at Vintage Stock. Which I love. You should go there. They sell used movies cheap. I have only a problem with 1 DVD from them and we have bought hundreds from them. There are times when I will see movies in the Blockbuster 3 for 20 and I will never see them at Best Buy. I don't know why they don't carry a variety of movies. Chances are, there are a lot of people out there like me that would love to buy small indie films and can't find them. I go to Vintage Stock when I can't find them. They get my business and not Best Buy. Also, if there are a lot of people like me, they are missing out on a lot of money. This brings me to my venting point. This week, New York I Love You and Adam were supposed to come out on DVD. I knew that Best Buy would probably not carry them in the store. I even checked online and it said that they would not be at the store. So, I bought them off of their website. It's fine, I'm a rewards zone member, so I don't have to pay shipping. Imagine my surprise and anger when I get to the store and they have a few copies of New York I Love You sitting there in the Drama section. This movie, I waited and waited for it to come to theaters here in Kansas. It didn't. So, I waited and waited for it on DVD. It just makes me mad that they said it wouldn't be there and then it was. Now, I am stuck checking the mail everyday till it arrives when I could be watching it right now. It makes me so mad that they don't care about their customers. I have been very loyal to them and for them to not care at all really makes me mad. I'm hoping it arrives soon. It should be here tomorrow, hopefully. So, Best Buy you better start appreciating my or I will take my business somewhere else.

Okay, so here's the scoop. I had my DVDs on the side bar and they ran down my blog. Problem 1: I can't update it without it taking 5 minutes per action. So, if I wanted to backspace it would take about 2 minutes to do 1 backspace. I don't have that time or I guess I'm not that patient. So, I decided that if I make it a post and then just update you weekly then that would good enough and take way less time and let me spend more time working on my blog. When In Rome

Kristen Bell stars as Beth, a museum curator, who has not had the best luck in love. Things seem to get worse after she is embarrassed at work and then later that night her sister, played by Alexis Dziena, informs her that she is getting married in Rome in 2 days. It's not exactly the best time for her to go to Rome because she has a huge show in a few days and she needs to be there too, but she goes. While she's there, she meets Nick (Josh Duhamel). He seems to be pretty charming and they seem to hit it off well. However, after a misunderstanding, Beth sort of loses it and decides that for her love it never going to happen and then pull coins out of the fountain of love. Her hope is that she can save the people who put their coins in the fountain. From what, it was unclear. The only thing she doesn't know is that when take coins out of the fountain, the owner of the coin falls in love with the person who took them. They are under a spell. So, she goes back to New York with no idea that 5 men are madly in the love with her and will do anything to earn her love. The first person we meet is Antonio (Will Arnett) and he is a painter from Italy. The next is Gale (Dax Shepard) and he is a male model. The next is Lance (Jon Heder) and he is a street magician. Then, there is Danny Devito who plays a sausage king. The fifth guy is Nick. While Beth is being harrassed by all these men, she is still trying to have a real relationship with Nick, who she is unsure whether he is under the spell or not. She also is trying to balance work with all these crazy relationships. To me, this movie was like a girl version of the movie The Bachelor. For what it was going for, it was a good movie. It was supposed to be a chick flick and that's what it was. Shepard, Arnett, Devito, and Heder are actully pretty funny in the movie. I love Josh Duhamel, but I didn't like what they did with his character. They made him really clumsy, you know, he would walk into a pole or kick a tray that a waiter was carrying. It was a cheap desperate attempt at laughs. It almost reminded me of the humor in Made of Honor, and I hate that movie. The movie didn't need that. The other guys carried the humor very well and kept the laughs coming. So, if it removed that it would have been a really good movie. As of how it is with it. I give it a 3 out 5. Remember it is a chick flick.

Okay, I have been on this blog all day changing my colors and templets, looking at other people's blogs and trying to figure out what to blog about that I over thought everything. It's Friday, new release day at the theaters. Here's what came out. Once again sorry I was so late. It won't happen again. Edge of Darkness with Mel Gibson. His daughter is murdered right in front of him by a shooter. Everyone thinks that he is the intended target, but he knows better. He tries to figure out what his daughter was doing at work and who would want her dead, but there are a lot of people that don't want to him to know. This actually looks like a pretty decent action film...with Mel Gibson. Don't get me wrong, I do like him, but it feels like he has been missing for a while. Glad he is starting to make his way back on top. When in Rome with Kristen Bell. Bell has to go to Rome for her sister's wedding. There, she becomes frustrated with her own love life and decides to steal some coins out of a fountain in hopes that it will bring her luck. The only problem, when you take the coins out of the fountain, the men instantly fall in love with you. The guys in the movie are Josh Duhamel, Will Arnett (one of the funniest men alive), Jon Heder, Dax Shepard (Bell's actual boyfriend) and Danny Devito. They all chase after her in order to win her over. How will she choose, well you'll have to find out for yourselves.

The Next Big Names in Hollywood

I watch a lot of movies, as you can see, and I have seen a lot unknowns in those movies become huge stars. So, before they do, I am going to predict the next batch of huge stars. Some are already pretty famous, but they are not huge stars. Chris Pine would have been on this list had he not gotten Captain Kirk in Star Trek. Don’t get me wrong, I am so happy for him. I first saw him in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Although the movie itself wasn't the best, he still did a really good job and I knew that he would be huge. Here are my picks for the next big stars of the decade.Remember, you heard them from me first. (These are in alphabetical order, not by whose the best actor) Joseph Cross: I saw him first in Strangers with Candy. He plays a step brother who hates his step sister who happens to be 40 years old and just out of prison. It’s hysterical. His other films include Running with Scissors, Untraceable, and Milk. Look for him in The Last Film Festival. Paul Dano: The first time I saw him was in the movie The Girl Next Door. He plays Emile Hirsch’s geeky friend in the movie. I love both of them so much. Paul’s best work though is of course Little Miss Sunshine where he played a mute, by choice, teen who really does not like his family. His other films include There Will Be Blood, Taking Woodstock, and Fast Food Nation. Look for him in The Extra Man. Kat Dennings: First saw her in Raise Your Voice with Hilary Duff. She played a gifted piano player. She has also appeared in Charlie Bartlett, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and The House Bunny. She is my favorite actress and I can’t wait to see her in more movies. Look for her in Daydream Nation. Colin Hanks: Yes, this is Tom Hanks’s son. I think we all remember him from the teen movie Orange County where he played opposite Jack Black. In the movie, he plays a high school student who gets rejected from school because his counselor sent out the wrong transcript. While this isn’t my favorite movie, I do think he is a really good actor. I think a lot of his dad’s talent has rubbed off on him. Some of his other films include King Kong, The House Bunny, Untraceable, and The Great Buck Howard. Look for him in High School. Josh Hutcherson: I first noticed him in Zathura. He was so young in that movie. He is so grown up now and doing really well in his films which include Journey to the Center of the Earth, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, and Fragments. Look for him in The Kids are All Right. Richard Jenkins: To me, this man is the most unappreciated actor I have seen in Hollywood. He deserves so much more credit for his roles. He is the oldest on this list, but he still is not a huge star. The first time I saw him was in The Core or Cheaper by the Dozen. I can’t remember because he has been in so many movies. His best performance was in The Visitor and he did get an Oscar nomination for it. His other movies are I Heart Huckabees, Fun with Dick and Jane, Burn After Reading, and Step Brothers. Look for him in Waiting for Forever. Logan Lerman: The first time I saw him was in a movie that never came to theaters here in Kansas, but I bought it on DVD. It was Meet Bill (Not the Eddie Murphy movie). He play a teen who wants to be mentored by a guy who’s life is falling apart. Real funny movie. His other movies include Gamer, 3:10 to Yuma, and The Number 23. Look for him in Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Lou Taylor Pucci: Okay, for those of you that haven’t seen Thumbsucker, you need to. It is one of the best indie film I have ever seen. He plays a teen who is trying to deal with high school and his parents and he happens to suck his thumb. I know it sounds weird, but the cast is incredible and it‘s just a real life film. See It. His other films include The Go-Getter, Fast Food Nation, Carriers, and The Informers. Look for him in Brotherhood. Saoirse Ronan: She is young Briony from Atonement. I loved her in that. I had read the book before the movie and she did a great job at playing her. She has also starred in The Lovely Bones, I Could Never be Your Woman, and City of Ember. Look for her in The Way Back. Anton Yelchin: I’m going to be honest, first time I noticed him was in Charlie Bartlett. It is one of my favorite movies, but after that movie, I saw his other work and its fantastic. Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Hearts in Atlantis, and Alpha Dog. Look for him in Memoirs of Teenage Amnesiac.

What happens when God loses faith in humanity? He sends Paul Bettany to protect the human race. Bettany plays Michael, an angel who is ordered to kill an unborn child and aid in the destruction of humanity. However, Michael still believes in the humans and instead he decides to help save them by making sure this child is born. The movie takes place out in the middle of nowhere at a diner. The diner is owned by Dennis Quaid and the mother of the unborn child works as a waitress there. The movie also features Kate Walsh and Tyrese Gibson as passerbys at the diner. The major plot point is that God sends the angels to come and kill the child. So, the members of the diner, with the help of Paul Bettany, have to kill all these angels who posses the living. As far as an action movie goes, there isn't much of it. I mean, there is a lot gun fight and one little angel vs angel beat up scene, but other than that, it's just a bunch of people going crazy through out the movie. I will say that it kept my attention throughout the movie, but it fell kind of flat. I felt that the Iron Man 2 trailer was more exciting than watching the movie. It was, I will say, better than I thought it was going to be. I think it was fine movie to sit through. Will I buy it, probably not. It's not worth ten dollars, but if you can see it for five then good for you.

The Lovely Bones

The movie is about a girl, Susie Salmon, who is murdered when she is 14 years old and how her family deals with her absence. It also shows how she deals with her death and her family's reaction. Susie (Saoirse Ronan) gets stuck in something called the inbetween where she is mixed with heaven and earth. She needs to let go of her family, but she can't bare to until she knows they are okay and her killer is identified. Mark Wahlberg plays her father who will stop at nothing to find her killer (Stanley Tucci) and seek revenge. Peter Jackson directs this movie and while it is nothing like Lord of the Rings, you can tell that it is his work. One of the reasons is that it is a good movie and the other is the story telling. Plus, the movie also has 4 or 5 possible ending points and still manages to end at the right time. The inbetween world he creates is visually stunning. He takes the beautiful landmarks of earth and mixes them with a fantasy type of essence. I respect him for not showing the murder and rape scenes in the movie. I agree with him. Things like that should not be shown; they should only be imagined. Trust me. He doesn't show it but you mind can't help but picture it. Showing it the movie would ruin what the imagination can do. Although, I would not recommend this movie to guys, I think that every woman should see it. Especially, young girls. It shows that these things do happen and they can happen to anyone. Extraordinary Measures- This movie looks about as exciting as going to school at 7 am. First off, it's only way to draw people in is to say it is as uplifting as the bling side. The movie is about dying children and based on a true story. If it is uplifting, I'm guessing the children live. So spoiler. That is my prediction. I do not want to see this movie, evn though I love Harrison Ford. Legion- This one is about God losing faith in man kind and he is sending angels to come and kill everyone. However, if a baby is born then it will save everybody. Okay, the sad thing is that my dad plans to see this on Sunday. I guess I might find out if you should see or not then Toothfairy-Do I even need to describe this one. Bad kids movie. The Rock really needs to stop making these movies. The guy is good looking and can do action movies. Why does he choose to make these horrible kids movies that wont do well and will get bad reviews. His career is turning into Arnold's. Look out, he might be the next governor of California.

I'm not going to list any of the TV's shows because I don't watch a lot them. The only one I really watch is The Office and it got snubbed...again. Best Supporting Actress- Mo'Nique Best Supporting Actor- Christoph Waltz (I predict that this guy is going to win an Oscar; he deserves) Best Animate Movie- Up Best Song- The Weary Kind (Crazy Heart) Best Score- Michael Giacchino for Up (However, he also did the Star Trek soundtrack so I was happy when he won. Although he should have won for Star Trek. It's a great score) Best Screenplay- Up in the Air Best Actress Comedy or Musical- Meryl Streep for Julie and Julia Best Actress Drama- Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side Best Actor Comedy or Musical- Robert Downey Jr. for Sherlock Holmes (I didn't expect him to win, but Sherlock Holmes was a great movie and he gives a good performance in it) Best Actor Drama- Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart (I'm a huge Jeff Bridges fan, but I'm sort of pulling for George Clooney to win. Although I am happy for Jeff) Best Director- JAMES CAMERON for AVATAR (That's right, Kathryn Bigelow lost. I hope he wins the Oscar) Best Picture Comedy or Musical- The Hangover (I can't believe it won. It was the most hilarious movie I have ever seen, but I didn't expect the Foreign Press to give them an award. I guess they have a pretty good sense of humor too.) Best Picture Drama- AVATAR (Oscars here we come. Avatar is going to dominate) Also, can't forget Ricky Gervais. His opening was too hilarious. I was in tears from laughing. Hopefully, he'll host more shows...Oscars maybe. Coming Saturday is the SAG awards. Actors voting for Actors. This could get interesting.

THE HURT LOCKER

So, as promised, I went out and bought The Hurt Locker and watched it. Now, this is typically not a movie I would have chosen to see. I'm not big on war movies about the war in Iraq, but I do like war movies. I probably would not have seen it if it has not been for it's Oscar Buzz and it winning all these awards. Plus, it's been beating AVATAR and I have to see why the Critics thought it was better. To me, I really liked it. It was a fantastic film and it goes by really fast. Jeremy Renner gives an outstanding performance in it. It was not an over the top blockbuster, which made it feel more like watching an Indie film and I that gives it a big plus. Also, there are a lot of big names in the film that I didn't know starred in it till I got the movies. Ralph Fiennes and Guy Pearce both had small roles in the film. Kathryn Bigelow is an amazing director and I do fell like she and this movie deserve the awards and nominations, but on Oscar night, my vote will still be with Avatar.

I am going to the store tomorrow to buy it and watch it. Personally, I wanted AVATAR to win. So, I hope Th Hurt Locker blows me away as much as Avatar did. Or I might have something to complain about. BEST ACTOR Jeff Bridges- Crazy Heart George Clooney- Up in the Air Colin Firth- A Single Man Jeremy Renner- The Hurt Locker Morgan Freeman- Invictus Viggo Mortensen- The Road I'm really glad Jeff won. I also would have been happy if either George or Viggo had one. Viggo really deserves an award. He is amazing in his movies. BEST ACTRESS Emily Blunt- The Young Victoria Sandra Bullock- The Blind Side Carey Mulligan- An Education Saoirse Ronan- The Lovely Bones Gabourey Sidibe- Precious Meryl Streep- It’s Complicated I was really shocked that there was a tie, but not with the winners. Very predictable. BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Matt Damon- Invictus Woody Harrelson- The Messenger Christian McKay- Me and Orson Welles Alfred Molina- An Education Stanley Tucci- The Lovely Bones Christoph Waltz- Inglorious Bastards No complaints. I wanted Christoph to win and I thought he would. Congrats Christoph. BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Marion Cotillard- Nine Vera Farmiga- Up in the Air Anna Kendrick- Up in the Air Mo’Nique- Precious Julianne Moore- A Single Man Samantha Morton- The Messenger I knew that Mo'Nique was a strong contender, but I thought it would either be Anna or Vera. However, if the votes split, I thought Marion would have won. Very Surprised. BEST DIRECTOR Kathryn Bigelow- The Hurt Locker James Cameron- Avatar Lee Daniels- Precious Clint Eastwood- Invictus Jason Reitman- Up in the Air Quentin Tarantino- Inglorious Bastards Okay, I was really rooting and expecting James Cameron to win. Congrats to Kathryn, but James, you won in my books. BEST YOUNG ACTOR/ACTRESS Jae Head- The Blind Side Bailee Madison- Brothers Max Records- Where the Wild Things Are Saoirse Ronan- The Lovely Bones Kodi Smit-McPhee- The Road Saoirse 100 percent deserves this. She played young Briony in Atonement and she did a great job in that and in the Lovely Bones. I'm so happy she won BEST CAST ENSEMBLE Inglorious Bastards Nine Precious Star Trek Up in the Air Okay, pretty upset here. To me, Star Trek was the best movie of the year and I felt that this was the best cast. Don't get me wrong. I love Inglorious Bastards, but there were so many seperate stories that most of the actors never really acted together. In Star Trek, everyone acting with each other and really worked well together. They really deserved it. Michael Jackson’s This Is It BEST SONG “All is Love”- Where the Wild Things Are “Almost There”- The Princess and the Frog “Cinema Italiano”- Nine “(I Want To) Come Home”- Everybody’s Fine “The Weary Kind”- Crazy Heart Leona Lewis should have been nominated for her song in Avatar, but The Weary Kind is an excellent song BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY Mark Boal- The Hurt Locker Joel and Ethan Coen- A Serious Man Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Webber- (500) Days of Summer Bob Peterson and Peter Docter- Up Quentin Tarantino- Inglorious Bastards Loved the script and all it's character development. Great Screenplay. I wish I could write one like Quentin. BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach- Fantastic Mr. Fox Neil Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell- District 9 Geoffrey Fletcher- Precious Tom Ford and David Scearce- A Single Man Nick Hornby- An Education Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner- Up in the Air This was well written too, but I was sort of hoping District 9 would win, but I'm happy for Jason. STAR TREK VS. AVATAR

Okay, so I've been trying to decide which one I liked better. When I saw Star Trek, I fell in love with it, just like I did with Lord of the Rings. Although, just so your clear no movie will ever, ever be better than the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. You can quote me later if needed. I saw Star Trek 6 times in theaters and I have only seen Avatar 3 times, but I do want to see it again. So, since Avatar was the last one of the two I saw. I thought I liked it better, but I watched Star Trek again today and it wins. BARELY. I mean there is hardly any distance between the two, but Star Trek is my favorite movie of last year. They both have the best casts. Both have Zoe Saldana in them. This was her year. Both had great plots and characters. Avatar did have the 3D special effects, but Star Trek was amazing to see too. It's really hard to choose, but I Star Trek wins for me. But Avatar is such a close second that on paper you couldn't even tell that there was a difference. Here are my top 5 movies of 2009. 1. Star Trek 2. Avatar 3. District 9 4. Inglorious Bastards 5. Watchmen There are a lot of others I could name, but you would be reading this forever if I did.

AVATAR

In case you haven't seen AVATAR, well if you haven't, you're the only one. As of today, it has grossed over a BILLION dollars world wide. They are saying that it might make more money than titanic, which is the highest grossing movie of all time. Both of which happen to be directed by James Cameron. Coincidence, I don't think so. We'll if you haven't, let me tell you it is one of the best movies of the year. Hands down. Maybe even the best. It's tied with Star Trek. It is the most visually stunning movie ever made. The 3D effects are mind blowing. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver are terrific in it too. I think the acting hasn't been given enough credit because of all the special effects hype, but they are fantastic in the film. Everyone is. This is a great film that everyone should see. You don't have to love, but it's a historic film. Movies will never be the same again. Thank You James Cameron.

12/15 DVD Release

This Week is one of the best weeks for DVD releases. Inglorious Bastards and The Hangover both came out this week with 2 disc special edition DVDs...hint hint :) And both are some of the best films of the year. Also, Taking Woodstock came out today, too. That's about it. Also, Golden Globe nominations came out today. A full list will be posted soon, maybe even later today.

Blockbusters are closing

So, since Netflix and Redbox have happened, all the blockbusters have been closing. It's sad, but this story isn't sad, not at all. My dad and I were driving home from UMKC and we saw this blockbuster closing sign. Naturally, we went and we spent 2 hours at this one blockbuster. However, we didn't buy any DVDs, we bought some collectors items instead. We bought there cardboard copies of the DVD covers. They put on the walls then stack the DVDs on top of them. They had thousands of them in about 40 stacks. That is why it took so long. The deal they had was 20 for 1.00 yah that's a great deal. We bought 400 between the two of us and they are the coolest things. I also got this star trek and terminator framed pictures for 40% off. We hardly spent any money and got a ton of things. So, look out and let me know if you see any closing blockbusters. Below are the pictures of them.

Fan Letters

In June, I wrote a letter to J.J. Abrams. He is the director of Star Trek. Yes, I know I'm a nerd, you don't have to tell me. Well, its been several months and I still have not heard anything back. What has happened to my letter. That is all I want to know. Well, last week I wrote a letter to Judd Apatow, the director of the 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Funny People. I've been wanting to write to him for a while now, but I didn't want to because of the whole J.J. Abrams letter. Well, I did anyway. So, it hasn't come back to me yet, so it went somewhere. Hopefully to him. My question is, which letter do you think will be responded to first. My mom said to give on J.J., but I refuse to. Anyone want to predict what happened it? Let me know your opinions. I'll let you know if I get any of the letters back or if I write any more cause I'm pretty sure I will.

My First Post

Well, Terminator Salvation came out today. Yes, I bought it. It made me mad though, because it came with a digital copy that is not compatible with iTunes. Well, I don't know about you guys, but what is the point in buying a movie with a digital copy that will only work on my computer and not my iPOD. The whole point is to be able to watch it anywhere. Oh well, the important thing is that Star Trek came with a digital copy for my iPOD and as long as I can watch that, I think I'll be just fine. By the way, Terminator Salvation is a great movie. It's got Christian Bale, which is its only flaw, but Anton Yelchin and Sam Worthington really make the movie. I highly recommend it.
